SECRETARY TO THE CABINET LAUNCHES 2025 AFRICA PUBLIC SERVICE DAY COMMEMORATIONS

The Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA), in collaboration with the Zambia Association of Pension Funds (ZAPF) has officially launched the 2025 Pensions Awareness Week to be held from 14th to 19th July, 2025 under the theme “My Pension, My Safety Net in Retirement.”

The launch event held at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka, drew participation from key stakeholders across the pensions and social security sector including government representatives, pension fund administrators, financial sector regulators, informal sector leaders, and members of the general public.

Gracing the Launch was the Honourable Minister of Labour and Social Security, Ms. Brenda Tambatamba, MP, represented by Labour Commissioner Mr. Givens Muntengwa who reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ongoing pension reforms and extending social security coverage to Zambia’s largely informal workforce.

In her speech, the Minister highlighted the Cabinet’s approval of a comprehensive review of Zambia’s pension system in January 2025 and the development of a National Strategy on the Extension of Social Security to the Informal Economy, as part of broader efforts to enhance financial security in retirement.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Peter H. Banda, Board Chairperson of the Pensions and Insurance Authority, emphasized the regulator’s focus on five strategic pillars: strengthening the pensions industry, broadening coverage, fostering innovation, driving pension reforms, and leveraging pensions as engines of economic development.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Namakau Mundia Ntini, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the PIA, reiterated the importance of pensions literacy in achieving financial empowerment.

The Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF) participated in the launch by setting up an exhibition stand that provided onsite services to members of the public. PSPF showcased its pension services and highlighted a range of digital platforms that have significantly improved service delivery for members and pensioners. These platforms include the e-PSPF portal, the Mobile App, USSD code, WhatsApp self-service line, and the Contact Centre line.
